Abstract:
In 1854 “ Record Rules” were framed. In 1866 "Record Rules” first appeared in the Board’s Rules and then in Volume I of the Board’s Rules, 1878 Act III of 1879 regulating the destruction of records was replaced in 1917 by Act V of that year. In 18SS c. Records Manual,was separately published and this was revised "in 1895, in 1902, in 1911, in 1917 and again in 1923. The present edition is practically a reprint of the manual with correction made since 1928. All correction slips should he entered in their proper place. Errors and omissions in the volume should be brought to the notice of the Board. This manual is to be briefly cited as “ The Bengal Record* Manual 1923. A model plan of a record-room is in at .the end. In this plan the management of the records is by subjects and not by estates, as is usual.
It is not, however, intended that the records should be rearranged by
subjects in record-rooms in which they are now arranged by estates.
