Abstract:
In the publication programme of NIPA, the Reprint
Series occupies an important position. The present volume
happens to be the fourth production in this series. Reprints
of old administrative reports and documents provide us with
valuable information for research and investigation purposes
in particular. Then again, through these reprints we are able
to maintain a continuous link with the past administrative
practices and patterns.
The Bengal District Administration Committee Report,
1913-14, is a .document o f great distinction and its usefulness
for both researchers and practitioners of public administration
can hardly be over .emphasized. The report examines
the conditions prevailing in the districts of Bengal and
also compares them with those existing in other provinces,
more particularly in the areas where the land revenue
was permanently settled. The recommendations in the
report are specially aimed at bringing the executive officers of
Government into closer touch with the people. This analytical
and informative report will .remain a landmark in our
public administration literature.
We are grateful to the Government of East Pakistan for
permitting us to bring out this reprint.
